Today we visited a small section of Bryce Canyon National Park that isn't accessible from the main park road (Mossy Cave). After a short hike and lots of photos there, we drove into the Grand Staircase - Escalante National Monument to see the impressive Grosvenor Arch before taking a quick drive through Kodachrome Basin State Park on the way back. It was a cold, but pretty day for more wonderful scenery.

Today we went to wildlife-rich Lamar Valley. We were in search of bears, but had no luck. We saw lots of other wildlife though including elk, pronghorn, bison, and more. Then we visited four waterfalls including the very picturesque Lower Yellowstone Falls.
Grand Prismatic Spring, Fairy Falls, Imperial Geyser, & Wolves - Yellowstone National Park - Wyoming8/28/2012
The main goal for today, was to find a great view of the spectacular Grand Prismatic Spring. Walking around the spring doesn't give you the perspective of the massive, colorful spring, so a little scrambling up a hill is in order. Also included in today's sights were elk, bison, a waterfall, more beautiful springs and geysers, and we ended the day with wolves.
Today we visited more thermal areas of Yellowstone - Mammoth Hot Springs, the Norris Geyser Basin, and Artist Paint Pots. We also had wildlife sightings and checked out the beautiful Gibbon River Falls. Another great day in America's first National Park.
Today we did our first two hikes in Grand Teton National Park. Unfortunately, smoke from area forest fires caused a haze over the mountains, but the hiking was still enjoyable.
Thermal features, rivers, waterfalls, wildlife, and an Old Faithful eruption. We covered a lot on our second day in Yellowstone National Park, and there is still a lot more to see.
The Gulf Hagas hike is a remote hike in the 100-Mile Wilderness of central Maine. Part of it runs along the Appalachian Trail and it includes several water features making it a pleasant wilderness experience.
The waterfalls at Old Man's Gorge here in Hocking Hills State Park were all dry a few days ago when we hiked through. But we had a storm last night, and I was hoping to get some photos with water flowing over the three waterfalls before we left that afternoon. I got lucky and there was at least a moderate amount of water in the pretty waterfall settings.
We had never heard of the Hocking Hills area in Ohio, but we took a look at it after receiving a tip. It turned out to be a quite interesting natural area. This was our first day of hiking from our campground at the Hocking Hills State Park.
This is a great hike that we highly recommend when visiting Lassen Volcanic National Park in northern California. Even if you don't get all the way to Kings Creek Falls, it is a worthwhile trek along a beautiful stream with cascades and smaller waterfalls.
This day at Bandelier National Monument in New Mexico was early on in our travels throughout the U.S, and it is still one of our favorite experiences.
When we asked a ranger at the visitors center about little known or special places we could go in Big Bend National Park, he pulled out a little black and white brochure from its hiding place behind the counter. And thus we were introduced to Cattail Falls.
