Palo Duro Canyon State Park in the Texas panhandle southeast of Amarillo is one of the top Texas state parks we've visited. We spent a few days there, and this hike to one of the park's best known landmarks is detailed below.
This hike in Canyonlands National Park in Utah was one of the longest day-hikes we've done since we began our extensive U.S. travels in 2005. It was exhausting, but it's also one of the most memorable days we've had on the trails.
Today we went to a scenic overlook in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park that is visited by very few people. It takes traversing a seven-mile four-wheel-drive road. The length of the hike depends on your vehicle, your 4WD skills, and how far you are willing to drive. But the views at the end, and the solitude, are worth it.
After our first visit to the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park about three weeks prior, we moved to just outside the park for the next few days. This was our second venture into Needles and it is certainly clear why they call it "Canyonlands".
